The impression of an allergic reaction to grass is communicated through simulacra fetishism and the relationship between video and sound. Synthesized audio and digital samples are often used as carriers for a transferable affect, capable of producing sanitized images of nature and seemingly organic phenomena. This combination of image and audio aims to evoke dirt and itching, in contrast to other nature simulations that insulate the body from these textures and sensations. If the observer could touch the jagged, psychedelic object floating in the center of the projection, its spines would prick them.

The connotation of the word nature is undermined by the recognition that our associations with its various phenomena have been hijacked by linguistic systems predating electronic media. The grass allergy is a reaction from the body that generates linguistic generalizations, in this case about nature, despite nature’s absence from a place like a soccer field. Aerosol paint segmenting trimmed patches of sod, stitched together by roots over fertilizer-saturated soil, a soccer field is not a natural locale. And yet the bodily experiences that take place there have the potential to be associated with the non-human biotic world.
